Commercial pick-ups are versatile, multi-functional vehicles. You can carry heavy loads, tow, and even transport your team. With major manufacturers offering great commercial pick-ups, packed with driver tech, how do you choose? It may be a popular choice, but how do you know a Ford Ranger lease is the right choice for you?
In this article, we’ll take you through the benefits of the Ford Ranger and compare it to other major players in the commercial pick-up market. So, you can make an informed choice for you and your business.
The Ford Ranger offers a great balance between comfort and practicality, with even the lower-end variants like the Tremor model boasting reversing aids and a colour touchscreen alongside the hugely capable 2.0L diesel engine.
A nimble drive with a good amount of get-up-and-go, the Ford Ranger offers a payload of over a tonne, with all models except the Raptor capable of towing 3,500kg. Practicality wise, the load bed also offers enough space for a standard pallet with options available that you can add on for longer load-length capability.
Designed as a workhorse, the lower-level specifications offer easy-clean surfaces in durable materials. As you move higher up the grades (Wildtrak and above), you’ll find a more car-like cabin with leather sections and contrasting stitching. This level of driver comfort is why many choose a Ford Ranger lease, allowing the vehicle to work well for domestic use as well as a business vehicle.
You won’t be short of driver safety and comfort tech, with the large central touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Rear parking aids, a reversing camera, and Ford’s patented QuickClear heated windscreen demonstrate a driver-focused build from Ford. Price is important. Coming in at a much lower all-in cost than the VW Amarok and Toyota Hilux, the Ranger however is beaten on price than the new KGM Musso. It’s good to remember however, that choosing a Ford Ranger lease may
Volkswagen’s pick-up offering comes in the form of stylish Amarok. Built in double-cab only, this truck doesn’t lack load space – it’s easily capable of carrying europallets, and matches its rivals with a max payload of over a ton.
There is plenty of space in the cab if you’re looking for something roomy enough to transport your crew. You’ll find no shortage of driver comfort features and helpful tech either, as even the cheapest iteration offering a 10’ infotainment system.
While built in the same factory as the Ford Ranger, this truck offers a different set of benefits. Many are loyal to the Volkswagen brand, however you may be able to get just as much truck from one of the Amarok’s rivals. For example, you can bag a Ford Ranger lease, for a lower price.
Tough and reliable, the Toyota Hilux is a workhorse. Choose the powerful 2.8L engine and you’ll be impressed with both the towing and off-roading capability of Toyota’s pick-up.
Driving experience is said to be less than dynamic when cornering but driving position offers great forward visibility and more than decent MPG.
If you’re looking for the level of luxury offered by Ford and VW on their base level pick-ups, you won’t find it with the Toyota Hilux. With the basic version offering Radio, CD & USB only – you’ll find an infotainment system and touchscreen on the higher spec models. The interior reflects the rugged durability of the truck itself.
Practical and reliable – the Toyota Hilux offers a massive 10-year warranty and good residual value.
The cheapest of the options here, the KGM Musso definitely offers you enough bang for your buck! The Musso comes solely as a double-cab, with 2 options in terms of load bed length (the LWB offers 1610mm). You’ll also be able to tow 3500kg, even with a full payload.
Where it excels in carrying and towing, the Musso is let down by its lack of speed, and sluggishness off-road. Positives here are that driving position and visibility are highly praised.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the interior – with smart-looking faux leather seats on the mid-range Rebel spec, as well as a rear camera, heated front seats and steering wheel and an 8’ infotainment system. Moving up to the Saracen and Rhino versions and you’ll see even more spec at great value.
KGM (formerly SsangYong) have backed this truck with a 5-year warranty, adding peace of mind to those buying and leasing. For now, you’ll see better residual value elsewhere but this may change in the future.
So, we’ve taken you through the basics, but here’s another round up.
If you’re loyal to Volkswagen you’ll probably go for the luxury and reliability of the VW Amarok.
If you’re looking for a workhorse and don’t mind if your pick-up is lacking in some of the driver tech offered by the rivals, the Toyota Hilux is the truck for you.
Looking for great value, and great load carrying and towing capability – think about the KGM Musso.
Want a pick-up that can work hard for you, while offering a high-spec interior and plenty of driver tech, then maybe you should choose a Ford Ranger lease…
